560 Ti MSI Twin Frozr OC or 6950?

Easy all, just gearing up for my new machine. The Mobo I intend to buy has onboard VGA so I am in a position where I can wait for a bargain to come along on the GPU front.

Don't want to spend much more than £180.

My first choice would be a 6950 as I like the idea of having the 2GB frame buffer for the future (titles might need more VRAM a couple of years down the line) and I prefer AMD cards generally. However the cheapest 1s are about £200 atm.

Scan the MSI Twin Frozr 560Ti on Today Only for £180 which is bang on budget, so that is tempting at the minute.

Do you think it is worth waiting patiently for a price drop on a 6950 or do you reckon they are close pegging enough that I should save time and or money and plum for the 560Ti?

Atm I play ASC2: B, Starcraft II, PES2011, Crysis 2 and intend to get Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3, Shogun 2 etc. but obviously that will change as new games come out so I'm not bothered if 1 performs particularly well in the games I currently play.

My monitor is only 1920x1080 so perhaps the 2GB is and always will be, overkill, I'm not sure.

I would get a reference HD6950 especially since they is a good chance of being able to unlock the shaders.

Yes there's that too! I would defo prefer a 6950, just not sure when/if they might come down to the £180 mark...

You can get an HD5870 1GB for around £160 delivered too:

    The GTX560TI has similar performance.

Re: 560 Ti MSI Twin Frozr OC or 6950?

I have been looking at a 560 but in part just because of the EVGA warranty I have the impression the 6950 is slightly better in most benchmarks but has a much smaller lead when at lower resolutions or with aa enabled

I made the exact same topic a few weeks ago. And I went for the HD6950. It is just a better card bang per buck.

    My thread: http://forums.hexus.net/graphics-car...hd-6950-a.html

Also, you can flash the 6950 to a 6970 really easily.

Cheers for that. I would be more than happy to buy the XFX card you went for but its **** back up to £205 if I could find it for £190 delivered I'd buy it.
