Question Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid drives... any good?

Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid drives... any good, say compared to the WD Scorpio Black I have in my old lappy? Would I see any noticeable performance increase?

Re: Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid drives... any good?

Well they seem to work well for me but a lot of people have had problems with them due to an aggressive power management setting. They use more power than a regualr hard drive though so they may reduce your battery life. Honestly, i would save up and just get a proper SSD.

As above really, their are hundreds of posts on various forums, the newer firmware releases solve a lot of the powerdown issues associated with the drive. Bearing in mind it only has a 4gb cache its only going to speed up programs you use the most, eg windows, email, word etc anything else and it behaves like a standard drive.

Personally i'd rather spend the money on the new WD 750gb black drive, very fast drive.
