    New printer needed

A bit of advise guys if you can, looking to replace my trusted but tired epson R340 with something new.

All i ask is that replacement inks can be bought cheap, and it can print to DVD's for when i create restore discs.

Ideally i think ide like to give canon a go, dont need a scanner and it doesnt need to be wireless, although that wouldnt be a bad thing.

I want to spend about £100, ideally less obviously.

    Re: New printer needed

Canon mg5250 can print to discs although I have not used this. There is one model below this which can be had for less than £100.

Replacement compatibles ~ £30 for full set.

Just bought the Canon 5250 for 100.00. It's good, and does all that you want. Canon inks aren't cheap though.

    Re: New printer needed

I used to have the Canon iP5000 but now have a Canon iP4500 and I just ordered a CISS for it (5x100ml) at £25.

    DVD/CD printing, lovely.

    Re: New printer needed

I bought an Epson R800 on eBay. Mine was the only bid, so I got it at .... wait for it ..... 99p. It needed a proper cleaning cycle, but other than that, fine. As it was local on "collect only", I went in person and was surprised when the seller wouldn't even take the quid. He was just happy to see it go to an appreciative user as he didn't need it any more.

You could keep an eye out on eBay.

I'd be very interested in the CISS. Who did you use ? They're notoriously fiddly.

Not installed it yet, but there are plenty of videos to show how and I'm fairly competant.

I'll let you know how it goes.

    Refillable cartridges are an alternative.

Some empty cartridges from City Ink Express which reset the ink usage everytime the printer is turned on.

Some quality ink from Octoinkjet. I'd also recommend the SquEasyFill bottle tops, as the syringes can be messy (I'd still recommend using some latex gloves though).

I use this combination on my 9000 MkII and it's an excellent combo. I do recommend getting a custom printer profile for whichever paper you use if colour accuracy is important to you.

    Re: New printer needed

I just remembered I have my old iP5000 in the loft, I was having trouble printing and even changed the print head (brand new), but I think the excess tanks/felt are full.

If you are competant you can have it for the price of post.
    Cheers, David

to be honest a full pad will just cause a leak, a blocked pump cap assembly will be the problem if a new head didnt fix it so personally i would file in bin, even more so if its been stuffed up the loft to dry out m8.

also CISS are great, but the printer may soon crap out as its not designed to have the ink lines being pulled back and forth causing the carrige return motor to wear & the belt will stretch, plus the added issues of budget inks causing issues.

then again its your printer and lots run them without issue.

Canon 5250 is a decent shout. I've recently bought one and find it does a good job.

    Re: New printer needed

PX730wd(140) for all in one photo printing(120) or P50 for photo printing. Epson always have a better CISS.
l have PX730 which looks really nice as well as the photo quality. l use refillable cartridge and bulk ink. Save l lot a inks.
Thanks to that the cartridge in px730 is not move the CISS will be very stable on PX730. it is really worth to pay 40 more over you budget to get px730
