    Dead CPU or Motherboard?

    Right,

So very recently (yesterday) I recieved a new i7 2600k and Asus P8P67 PRO Rev 3 Mobo, I built the PC fine and everything was up and working perfectly within a few hours. As soon as everything was running I bumped the turbo to 4.6Ghz on 1.35 voltage, this was working fine and I never surpassed 73 celcius running prime 95 for 1 hour. This morning I looked into the case and noticed the second fan on my CPU was not working so I opened the case, put the second fan into one of the chassis fan slots on my mobo and that started working. This is where my nightmare begins.

When booting for the first time with the CPU fan now plugged into the chassis slot (the first CPU fan was still in the CPU Fan slot) my post reported "Overclocking failed! Press F1 to enter setup", so I entered the bios and set everything to default, saved and restarted, now the PC was only turning on for a few seconds before powering itself off.

Managed to turn the PC on by holding the MemOK! button on my motherboard, entered bios and everything was still default so tried restarting again. Nothing. When the PC is on all the fans spin and the CPU_LED stays solid, no post, nothing. Tried 6 different sticks of RAM in each of the different slots, only managed to get into bios once and attempting again with the same stick I went back to the non-posting problem.

I have tried everything I could find on the internet including re-seating everything in the PC, no pins were bent and yes the 12v is plugged in.

    I am now very sad

Now which do I RMA? CPU, Mobo or both?

oh I also tried a second graphics card, same problem.

Did you reset the Cmos? Also remove the power supply to drain the system of power.

Yeah I am thinking that is the best option, I am happy to pay the £10 + shipping or whatever it is if one of them fails the RMA, at the moment I have a £1000 paperweight

    Re: Dead CPU or Motherboard?

RMA organised and courier picking up mobo and CPU tomorrow. At least I have learnt that Scan Customer Service is good from this purchase, first time I have had to deal with them in 4 years!

    Re: Dead CPU or Motherboard?

Components picked up yesterday @ 11:00
Arrived at Scan @ 14:01 Today
Motherboard and CPU tested and replacement issued @ 17:10 Today

So I am expecting back my original CPU and a replacement motherboard, Scan have blown my mind with how quickly they have sorted this and are pretty much guaranteeing my future custom.

    Re: Dead CPU or Motherboard?

Motherboard + CPU shipped today for Saturday delivery at no extra cost.

    Just wow!

I have been very pushy but I am surprised at the results!

I will have to keep on being a bad customer as they seem to get their way, though I do feel bad emailing them every hour....

Seriously good CS, I suppose that's how they get their high customer ratings and awards.
