    Broken another Nforce SFF :(

    why is it always me?

feeel really down again.....said I'd build Sair's parents a PC, got an A Open XC Cube EZ 18 (UK79G-1394 )model, put it together, booted with everything in place...

motherboard speaker was wailing and yelling, no screen.

Reset CMOS....booted....into BIOS, PC speaker still going mad, but went through every option until got too HDD, chose Auto and it went quiet

Pleased with myself I set time, and date, and rebooted...good as gold.

And then on third reboot I saw that there were two options....

Del for BIOS andInsert for something else...dunno WHAT it was but it was a Media Centre or similar...so I hit Insert.

and now I have no PC

For the record....the fan spins up and then slows...as though in standby mode and the fan spins up again and then down again....

    but no screen.

Have reset CMOS in the follwing ways:

Power plug out, move CMOS jumper from 1-2 to 2-3, waited 3 minutes moved back to 1-2

Power plug out, move CMOS jumper from 1-2 to 2-3, taken cmos battery out, put battery back in, waited 3 minutes, moved back to 1-2

Power plug out, jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 , left for HALF HOUR, moved back to 1-2

Why does it happen to a new build> Why?

Anyideas guys....A Opens web site is.....not much use

    cheers for reading

    Buggered BIOS again ?

You know my address by now, if it needs re-flashing, just send it

Curious about this "media centre" - maybe its gone into a different mode of some kind. Is there any seperate buttons on the front to switch from a media centre to a PC ? (or anything along those lines).

Try holding insert when switching it on ?
Shouldnt make any difference if you've cleared it though. Long shots here...

is there an option in the handbook for clearing the CMOS whilst booting? I know some manufacturers will reset the cmos if insert or similar is held down.

Only other thing i can suggest it UNPLUG the machine, REMOVE the battery and LEAVE it overnight and try again in the morning.

Reboot with the bare minimum, so CPU, GFX and RAM, leave EVERYTHING else unplugged.

    Good luck chap

You could try booting with the bare minimum, if the earlier shenanigans were caused by the HDD, try booting without it.

well......took it all out....no cd, no hdd, no floppy...

left the jumper on reset all night...moved it back this am, power lead back in, hit power...

    same

Once again Zak falls at the first with an nForce mobo cos of BIOS.

Agent.....looks like Im gonna have to take you up on your very kind offer AGAIN

Why does it happen.....why? What the point of a BIOS offering a button hit if it kills the PC?
