Well, the other option is to go second hand for the GFX card... people who are selling them now are those who like to stay at the bleeding edge with their hardware.

They'll be flogging Raddy 9800pros and XTs to get the dosh for the latest Raddys.

These are the people who will have most likely o/c'd their cards to get the most out of them.

True, but you *could* get stung for import duty by customs, then you lose all you've saved... once you add in shipping costs to UK, you'd not actually save all that much, especially if you pay import duty... and the delivery times will be longer too.

the 128-bit one is the 9800SE - avoid like the plague

    all 9800pro's are 256-bit

nah theres, 9800 pro 128, 9800 pro 256 and 9800 xt, the se models are pap though.

anyway, ive seen this card, http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=121500&cks=PRL
but dont no much about PowerColor , the price caught my eye, as most XT;s are £280/£299 area

I thought the 9800 Pros from Scan had a R360 core, so that you could flash it to XT? And according to the ATi website, all 9800 Pros are 256 bit. The only reason that I would think that there are any 128 bit 9800 Pros is that some companies are selling 9800SEs as 9800 Pros.

The Scan page actually says the card is a 128bit. It must be one of those Sapphires that everyone is complaining about. Never mind, Komplett do a proper 9800 Pro for £141.

Don't get confused between the amount of memory and the width of the memory bus; you don't really need 256MB of memory, but you do need a 256bit bus for good performance!

What would be the point of getting an 9800XT when...

    a) It's only slightly faster than a 9800pro which will do XT speeds anyway

    b) It's only slightly cheaper than an X800 Pro which puts it to shame

I would buy either 9800 Pro 128mb (256bit) or X800 Pro/XT 256mb cos those are the only options make sense IMO. Either best bang for your money or bleeding edge performance.

Personally the 9800pro until CPU's are fast enough to not bottle neck the GPU performance.

That one has 128mb and is 256 bit as far as I can tell. That's the one I would recommend.

I'd go for the Connect3d 9800 pro from overclockers for £132. Used Connect3d stuff before and there's nowt wrong with it. Why pay extra for a name when its essentially the same bit of kit.
