    Lightbulb Maxtor disk utility for 80gb...

    i need a program for a maxtor 80gb diamondmax 9 plus ata133 8mb cache.. i need this program so that i can use it on the drive to make the bios on the mobo (a 450 mhz p3 msi board) thinki its a smaller drive so that it will register. also i need another program that u run when in windows that makes it realise its true size.otherwise the 450 doesnt detect it
    cheers.
    ps aparently there are loads of these kind of programs made by different hard drive companys....

    I don't know how well those programs work if the BIOS doesn't detect the drive at all. I think usually the programs get around it when the BIOS only detects part of the drive's full capacity.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    dunno if Wildmonkey's link sorted you out, hopefully it did.. but on my old ibm 40gb drive there was a jumper which meant it would only show up as 32gb... im guessing there is the kinda same thing on the maxtor drive...
    im unsure whether if the bios only detects it as 32gb, windows will detect it as 80gb hmmm, fingers crossed!

    I think that allows you to then use a utility like EZ-Drive to let the OS see the rest of the disk... maybe.

    I've never had to do it so I don't know.

    I have been there my self! You can download the files from maxtor, Then use the bios thingy on the software.... Boot with the flopy the software creates then go under the advanced options and instal ez bios... Its a massive pain BUT WORKS! Dont use cap limit on the drives jumpers if you plan on doing this...
