Which is the best stuff too buy. Is it self adhesive? Do you buy it in a kit or by the sheet?

I've tried a couple of sound proofing matrials.

1st one I tried was called 'brown bread' from a car hi-fi shop and it was a heavy foil backed tar sheet for sound damping and it worked quite well to reduce vibration and gave a much deader (if thats a proper word) sound. Cheap... seemed to reduce the higher frequencies which I find the most annoying.

Next up was akasa pax mate which is like a very thin foam sheet and I don't think it's very good. Slight improvement but nothing to write home about. IMO it's too thin to make any real difference and lacks mass to cut high frequency vibration and does little to absorb sound because it isn't thick enough.

Now I been wondering the same thing myself. For what it's worth here is a link to the product I'm going to try next. Dunno if it's any good about the best looking product I have seen.

pax mate works for me.. cuts out all the tinny noises I used to get, now all I can hear is a low rumble of the fans and when there's drive activity

packaging foam tbh. I have loads of it, about an inch thick. cuts out viabrations well for stuff resting on it (hdd, pump etc..) and probably works well on the inside of cases too if you glue it on - however there are better ways to reduce niose imo.

As above, give the car sound deadening stuff a try, brown bread etc have been making their stuff for a long time, whereas the pc stuff is relatively new...
