Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

    Hi Guys -
Came across this post whilst trying to compare my own now nearly 3 years old system with a new2500k SB system I'm thinking of getting - purely down to downsizing house and space available ! ( and now I believe - no need for such a large system !)
I do alot of video encoding and photoshop and despite my system size - I don't use it for gaming !
My testing has shown so far -
Tron 66.5fps on Normal profile with my 920 i7 oc to 4009MHz.
The previous chart was very useful for a comparison, but am wanting to know if an oc 2500k to say 4.4 will better my current system by much ?
    Great thread BTW !

There's not much in it TBH. A 2500 system would draw less power so you could get away with a smaller/quieter system, but you won't see much of a difference in encoding speed; at stock clocks (920=2.66GHz, 2500k=3.3GHz) they're roughly the same, OC'd to similar clocks the 920 will probably be faster.

Personally, I'd wait another gen or two to upgrade from a 920, possibly Ivy Bridge or Piledriver.

Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

Handbrake 0.9.6 - this is going to be a curve ball for many of you.

    Core I5 750 @ 3.8 (19x200@1.2v) with 2006.6Mhz G.Skill (8,10,9,28,2t@1.6v)
    All 4 cores at 98%.

    3 runs each ... Regular - Normal - mkv

    Tron - 70.00 average (70.149788, 69.889595, 69.945724)
    Splice - 52.09 average (52.111805, 52.132473, 52.020153)
    BBB - 71.45 average (71.519157, 71.336876, 71.490738)

    Windows 7 x64 SP1
Asus Maximus III formula (2104 bios)
    G.Skill Memory @ 2006.6 Mhz 4GBx2 (F3-16000CL9-4GBRM), 8,10,9,28,2T 1.60325v.
IMC 1.15275v (for those thinking that you need 1.35v to get 200 bus stable).
Seasonic S12D 850w (best in the business baby)
    Corsair F60
    Asus EAH5850 @ 860/1300 stock voltage.

This includes having Explorer, Steam, and 90 additional services active.
Maybe I should try a couple of runs at 4.26 with 2133 on the memory and tighter timings?!?

Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

    I have been looking for a post like this for a long time. I have a Q6600 G0 overclocked @ 3.4 ghz
    asus p5k deluxe Mobo
    4 GB corsair Dominator

I want to test my CPU against your results to see if it's worth upgrading.
I was able to download Tron and BBB. But I am having trouble downloading the splice trailer.
The link just plays the video with no right click option or anyway to down load it.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

Somewhat accidentally stumbled on to this thread as I was just testing out handbrake on my new system . . . it got me curious about my performance . . . I'm actually using Windows 8 -- not sure how many of you on here have tried it with that OS? Anyway, I was just a hair under 77 fps with Tron (using the default 'Normal' profile) . . .

    HandBrake 0.9.6 2012022800
    OS: Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.8250.0
    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
    Ram: 7637 MB, Screen: 1920x1080

    [20:45:15] hb_init: starting libhb thread

[20:46:02] work: average encoding speed for job is 76.854660 fps

. . . looking forward to finally converting my dvd collection without having to wait multiple hours per disc!

Re: The Hexus HandBrake 0.9.6 charts - who has the greatest multi-threaded POWER!!??

Re-done the HandBrake conversion last night with various different settings. Use which ever you prefer.

All results obtained running Windows 8 Release Preview 64bit with an Intel Q9550 @3825Mhz and 4Gb Crucial Balistix DDR2 1066Mhz RAM. Output file set to .mkv for each batch.

Zero HandBrake changes and Steam/Chrome/Winamp/Gadgets running:
    BuckBunny - 53.485458 fps
    Splice - 41.658661 fps
    Tron - 54.587921 fps

HandBrake with priority set to High, Normal, SmartClose used
    BuckBunny - 54.473415 fps
    Splice - 42.466431 fps
    Tron - 55.527328 fps

HandBrake with priority set to High, High Profile, SmartClose used
    BuckBunny - 13.957785 fps
    Splice - 10.923452 fps
    Tron - 16.043577 fps

I will re-run the same queues when I get my new machine, I'll also run the Normal and High Profile tests on the other computers in the house at some point this month.
