    Is this worth upgrading?

My current rig as shown in my sig upgraded to this.
Biostar or Soltek Athlon 754 skt
    AMD3200 64bit
    250Gb Hitachi Deskstar
Same ram and GFX as current rig.

Will I see much improvement over my current setup, which is running at 2.2Ghz.

You will see some improvement but not much. Look at some of the reviews comparing CPU scaling for the GF6 and X800 graphics cards.

If you can't overclock the A64 3200+ by much I wouldn't bother with the upgrade.

I'd stick with what you've got until the end of the year. I have an XP2000 @ 1.92ghz & 512MB RAM. If I can manage until then, I'm sure you can, hehe

Well I was thinking of just upgrading to a XP2500 Mobile instead and clocking the pants off that. My 3dmark.2k3 score is currently at 10150

Well, the new cards are slightly limited by CPUs in games like FarCry according to [H]ardOCP, but they were comparing a stock 2500 to an A64@ 2.43 GHZ. I personally would wait a bit longer to see if Socket 939 become affordable anytime soon- or if K8 Semprons turn out to be a bargain, which they could potentially.

Id stick with what you have, I dont see the point in getting 64-bit when there isnt a windows out for it yet. Y pay for something you cant even use (64-bit side)? If you have masses of space on your hard drive i wouldnt upgrade that either. Wait a few months, that drive you have as an upgrade would probably be cheaper then any way. Thats my opinion ne way

I agree with Kez, I'm waiting a while - I only got the majority of my rig in december last year

Theres nothing your rig wont play, save your dough for now - thats what I'm doing.

Improve your comps sound system and/or monitor if the moneys burning a hole in your pocket...

I would'nt recommend an upgrade until the 64 bit format is fully established.

because it is faster in 32 bit too (& not forgetting 64 bit Linux is available as is Windows 64 beta).
Whether to upgrade now depends on how wealthy you are (obviously wedge is as he has an X800Pro ) & what he uses his computer for - e.g. AMD64 is the best cpu for gaming.

Personally, I'm waiting to Autumn to go Socket 939 if the price has dropped a bit further.

Well I am definately a gamer mate and notr rich but comfortable I would say.
I was dismayed to hear that my friend with his 3.2Ghz HT P4 and a radeon 9800 has managed a score of 13000 in 3dmark2k3 thrashing mine by 3000 points. This is another reason to upgrade.

Stick with what you've got 'till things settle down. You'll be kicking yourself at the prices by Christmas if you buy now. As people are saying, wait until 939 is firmly established.

    my current specs are:
    XP2200+ @ 1.8ghz
    2x 256 PC2100 ddr
    GeForce 4 ti4200 128mb
    Gigabyte GA-7VA mobo

i was looking to upgrade this, but im unsure what to buy, i definately need new memory because this is broken (i get crc errors all the time etc),

would a AMD Athlon XP2600-M Barton (to overclock), with a DFI LanParty NFII Ultra B mobo, and 1024 pc3200 ram be a worthwhile upgrade?

would the DFI mobo give me much of a performance increase or should i stick with the GA-7VA?

or should i just buy a new gfx card (to play hl2 etc on! ), and wait till 64-bit drops in price.

im not looking to spend overly much money, im thinking about £350-400 MAX.

    So many choices :<
