One of the reasons i got my CWT550 was the upgrade path to btx, but then am undecided wat to do next...i might take this psu fwd with the new 64bit setup next year and the btx case and get a older enermax/antec for this chieftec bx03 cos it would be a shame to get rid of this case when i not had it long.

So it might not happen till next year then..........

Plenty of time for me then.

    from one of the articals

"Our own recent overclocking antics with a Tualatin core Pentium-S show that a large cache Pentium M could well be a killer chip, and on a clock for clock basis, even the Tualatin with its PIII core offers very impressive levels of performance relative to current desktop Pentium 4 processors."

I knew the older p3 core was beter clock for clock then the p4 core but every one called me a crack pot when i said so.

BTX is pointless, it's an intel only standard, not an industry wide one with intel just trying to squeeze more money out of peeps..

Not sure if this already got covered but i thought id add in a little table that i did for my own sanity:

Socket 754 (1600mhz HT, single Channel mem)

    2800 -- 1.8ghz -- 512kb -- £125
    3000 -- 2.0ghz -- 512kb -- £135
    3200 -- 2.0ghz -- 1mb -- £165 (original form, rare)
    3200 -- 2.2ghz -- 512kb -- £165
    3400 -- 2.2ghz -- 1mb -- £210
    3700 -- 2.4ghz -- 1mb -- £480

Socket 939 (2000mhz HT, dual channel mem)

    3500 -- 2.2ghz -- 512kb -- £260
    3800 -- 2.4ghz -- 512kb -- £460
    FX53 -- 2.4ghz -- 1mb -- £563

Socket 940 (1600mhz HT, Dual channel ECC mem)

    op*40 -- 1.4ghz -- 1mb
    op*42 -- 1.6ghz -- 1mb
    op*44 -- 1.8ghz -- 1mb
    op*46 -- 2.0ghz -- 1mb
    op*48 -- 2.2ghz -- 1mb
    op*50 -- 2.4ghz -- 1mb

    FX-51 -- 2.2ghz -- 1mb
    FX-53 -- 2.4ghz -- 1mb -- £563

now with prices from scan (which include mondays price cut) to give you idea of how you have to be careful with your money - sometimes you are being asked to pay hundreds of pounds just for an extra 512kb cache, which makes very little differnce indeed

i also have to add that the the extra cache on the s754 3400 does not justify the 200 speed increase.... and the fx-53 is a bit of a joke price wise ......

best buys have to be the s754 3200 and the s939 3500, in my humble opinion.

hope this clarifies the mud for some

    You might want to add that there is a 2nd S754 3200 running @ 2.0 with 1Mb L2

really? ok cool ill add that, cheers Mulda. Any idea which is the most prevalent form ? I'm guessing the 2.2 ver as that would be cheaper to make than the 1mb version in the long run....

The 2.0 is the original form, but a quick flick through some of my favourite online stores shows that very few are stating cache size and of those that do, the 2.2 seems to be more prevalent.
