I have lift off! "Jet 4" *Warning, thread may contain large images!

Well I recived a Jet 4 wich I got off ebay! It was not cleaned and needed help! After cleaning it I just had to instal it! But my AS5 I ordered had yet to arive! So I used the included crud... "High Thermal Conductivity Compound" SIL More..

Its a white cream, simular to baby burn but rash stuff.... Any way my load temps were 64 -65.. Now there 59, Is this because of the thermal paste? Should I apply the AS5 when it arives? I was hoping for lower temps with my jet 4! Its on high and its screaming!!!!

Oh, and for the test shes not OC'ed! Also is there a break in needed for the thermal paste?

Thermal paste can bed in a little, but really it shouldn't make more than a couple of degrees difference. Realistically, Arctic Silver isn't going to make more than a couple of degrees difference either.

If you had a reasonable heatsink before, then dropping 5 degrees is pretty good- bear in mind that motherboard temperature readings are only a guide. I prefer to use max overclock as the best indication of a cooler's efficiency.

AFAIK, the stock heatsink bundled with the 3.0C is a good unit with a copper base etc. so getting a big improvement on air won't be all that easy. You may find that the temperature difference betwen the Jet and stock heatsinks increases as you increase the speed/load.

Fair enough, that should lower your temps dramatically. Realistically though, if you can get your chip to 3760MHz on air, you're probably not going to be able to push it much further on water. I think you'll be lucky to get it past 4GHz. Running at 64 degrees won't do the chip any harm as long as you're not running at more than 1.7V (which is about the safe limit for a Northwood).

I still get the bsd from time to time.. And its not due to temps I cant seem to figure out what the cause is! So perhaps I'll just water cool the system, and then up the volts some more!

Can you pass memtest and Prime95?

Is that the little mermaid in your av? If so, good choice.

It could be, but if it'll do a few passes of memtest and run Prime95 stable for 24H it sounds a bit unlikely. I can't really help there, sorry.

Either ram or your psu is not up to the job. Also could be proc getting enough voltage which it doesnt like.
