again look at sudhian/sfftech.com modding forums

1.Cut out the rear grill reduces temps a bit (voids warranty) I've done, wish I had waited until out of warranty.
2.On non SilentX PSU changing the fans for quieter adda fans can be done (some stock psu's already use adda's be ware!) (voids psu warranty) I've done on some older psu's worthwhile.
    3.Stealth DVD drive I've done
    4.Stealth Floppy drive I've done
5.80mm fan blowhole in top of case. I can't do since DVD drive to long
6.hole on side of case for gfx card fan. I want to do but don't want to mess up my case or have a hole there (symmetry) catch22.
    7.change LED's. Not done
8.Change system fan for something quieter
9.Mount a 7" TFT into the front of your case, ambitious check out MarkF at sudhian cool
    10.Custom face plates

not worth starting a new thread for this, and sorta relevant, but is there a way i could make the power LED less bright, it lights my room up at night like a torch

Ek: Solder a resistor in? I dont think there's really a much easier way.

One reeeeeeally easy mod, which I've just done, is the push/pull mod. You basically just stick another fan on the outside of the ICE radiator grill. It usually helps drop your case temps; best of all, it's cheap, easy, and doesn't void your warranty. Not exactly the kind of mod you can brag about tho, heh.

easiest wasy is to use glass/sand paper on the LED to make the end rough and it will dull the light

You could also install a 4" CCFL under the hdd/optical drive mount. Line it up against the lip of the case. The glow isn't amazing in photos but in person it is decent. I'm sure you can get a second 4" in there if you take your time to extend the cabes from the inverter.

    Good luck, and post images

I havent seen any pics but if I explain it should be pretty obvious what you do.

You currently have an 80mm fan screwed onto the back panel with 4 thumbscrews, right? This is the fan cooling the ICE radiator. Unscrew the thumbscrews. Then you take another 80mm fan and place it up against the grill on the back panel. Then you need some longish screws - I bought some from B&Q. Then you screw the new 80mm fan on to the back of the panel, placing the screws in the holes where the thumbscrews were.

What you end up with is like a 'sandwich', with an 80mm fan, then the ICE radiator, the back panel, and another 80mm fan. You do end up with a fan stuck out on the back of the case but you cant see it.

You just need to make sure that you put the new fan on the right way so that it's sucking in the air that the first fan is pushing out of the case.

I've heard that 'sandwiching' fans this way can reduce their life span but you'd prolly have a new machine before that happens Of course, both fans should be identically specced, well as close as possible for obvious reasons.

I did this sometime back with my shuttle but the 4" CCFL died in a mysterious way - since then I ripped the circuitry out. I think I'll be redoing this properly when I have some time and install 2x 4" CCFLs - it takes a bit of time and patience cutting, resoldering and heatshrinking for a nice job...and ohh yea measuring

Actually thinking back...There is no space near the 'back' as the GFX card blocks this space...now how about a dastardly idea - mount the 4" CCFL on the GFX card! ROFL...the top edge of the card...hrm.. it might work...or even the groove in which you are meant to 'route' the IDE cable...

You can just about make some of the glow in that image...and that is only one 4" CCFL. Add another one in there and it will be wicked!

Another idea just hit me. A servo controlled LCD module that pops up when the machine boots up and goes back in (stealth) when off...

I'm thinking of doing this when I fully mod my shuttle - ok you are wondering how one could 'fully' mod a shuttle? It's when a shuttle isn't exactly a shuttle anymore..but is a shuttle @ heart
