    Boot Disk Failure

I just bought a Samsung 160 GB HDD, and it won't work I'm currently running a Seagate 80GB SATA150 HDD, and it works fine, obviously. Anyway the bios detects the new Samsung HDD, but when I try to boot windows it says that there's a boot disk failure and to insert my system disk. I've tried everything that I can think of for the jumper settings, master, slave, cable select, and non of them work. I really don't want to reinstall windows, not sure if that would help anyway, must be a setting in my bios. It is possible to run an IDE HDD and a SATA isn't it?

I've got an Abit AN7, not sure about bios version, have to leave for work in a bit so i'll check it when I get back. Thanks in advance for the help!

umm... Is this new drive formated? Does it have windows.... Or are you saying that your trying to instal windows? if its a new drive you need to boot from a windows CD.. Its trying to boot from the new HDD instead..

It sounds like your trying to boot to that disk, and not your windows one.
Go into the BIOS and make sure its set to boot from SATA first (or floppy then SATA). Just make sure SATA comes before the IDE channels.

Yeah, I'm sure that's the problem. but i haven't seen an option in the boot sequence to chose between SATA or IDE HDDs, just HDD. maybe it's elsehwere or i just missed it. Should try to boot from the master drive i am guessing? (still on one drive here )
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

On the NF7-S, you get a "SATA RAID", or "SATA" option when you enable the onboard chip.
Im not sure which one it is though, as ive not needed to change it for a long time, and i cba to reboot right now

Thanks I finally found the option in the Bios! Only problem is now windows only detects 127GB instead of 160GB I have SP1 installed, and under the HDD properties tab it lists the capacity of the drive as being 153GB. Anyone know what's wrong?
