PC sound options

Hi

I currently have a full hifi amp and speakers connected to my PC via 3.5mm socket in the sound card. I need a less bulky setup ie get rid of the hifi amp.

Now my option are an integrated mini amp and DAC

or a sound card and just plain mini amp I use it for gaming and music. Do i need a sound card is onboard good enough these days.

All depends on how big an audiophile you are, onboard sound with desktop speakers or headset would be fine for some.

Audio is one of those areas which are more personal, I'm still using an old cheap genius 5.1 speaker set on onboard audio.

Well I refuse to put up with crappy PC desktop speakers but I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm audiophile either! Just decent quality.

Umm that's what I mean "decent" audio quality is a personal thing not an absolute, what you call "decent" others wouldn't

You can get very good desktop speaker sets, must say desktop speakers can come a long way in terms of quality.

So what good desktop speakers are there?
