What do you want to accomplish? If you game the 9800 Pro is the way to go. If you scan photos and such RAM would really help. If I were you I'd save a little more and go 64 bit ASAP. Win XP x64 Edition is near release. 64 bit is the very near future.

Its for gaming, and the bad part is, I usually end up as the server at LANs as out of my friends, I have one of the better boxes.. So id like to be able to score a better framerate with a 9800pro BUT i need the RAM while being the server as well..

    Bah Humbug...

What do you play? Your'll be able to run FarCry better with 1Gb of RAM over an upgrade to an R9800Pro.

I play everything, I hate playing just one game over and over and over.... I swap between games faster than new games come out

I'd say that a new 9800 Pro would give a greater performance boost than another 512mb of RAM.

I voted 9800Pro too, would be much better for games!

I think most games at the moment except doom3 and farcry etc will use max about 512MB RAM

The 9800 pro will be best for your general gaming, however the extra ram will probably be useful for longer.

Yea, personally I would choose the 9800 PRO if that was the choice I had. But to take an 'IRL' example... I had a R9800Pro and 512MB (DDR) RAM, a mate had a 9600XT and 1024MB (SDR) RAM. He could run FarCry at much higher detail level at a more consistant framerate, but other titles that used less RAM my system had a fair edge.

9800 pro here, willbeat your 9600 pro to a pulp and some.......A gig of ram is nice but i've yet to find a game that really really struggles with 512 meg ( my 2nd rig ) Oh and as for ram....can I suggest Patriot Ram.....Low Latency like your Corsair, but a fraction of the price....Made up with my Patriot 1 Gig in my main rig and is on a par with the Cosair xms3200 in my Shuttle. Cant fault it

    Hello,

    I have an easy solution!

Firstly buy a 9800pro as they are great cards but then sell the 9600pro and save up for / buy the ram as well

The sale of the 9600 pro was going to cover the little extra cost of the 9800 pro

Long term - good quality ram (once you've got 1gb of good stuff you're sorted. Short term - 9800 pro (theres always something better/cheaper round the corner).
