Question 333mhz cpu and 400ddr ram?

Hi there, Quick question about ram and cpu speed. Im going to get a 2500xp barton with 333mhzfsb. But i was thinking of getting 400ddr pc3200 ram. Would the 400ddr ram be wasted on a cpu thats only 333mhz fsb? Or would i be better advised to get 333mhz pc2700 ram? Thanks for any help,John.

If you plan on overclocking the CPU, you'd want to be putting the FSB up to about 200ish, and so 400DDR RAM would be th one to go for.

If you're not overclocking then 333DDR will do you fine.

from what ive read, and slightly experienced, running it in sync matters... but is not essential, i run the cpufsb/mem speed at 5/5 which matches the memory with the speed, so when i have my my cpu at 200x10, it says dual channel, mem frequency 400mhz, i think that its more stable in sync that specifying the ram speed to run high and say having 133x16,

to get back to the more serious question, the ddr400 woudl last you loner and if your playing games, or demanding tasks be more usefull, what ram were you thinking of?

    hope that sortof help...

Crucial ram ddr3200 or ddr2700 From ebuyer. I'm unlikely to try and overclock so there would be no advantage of getting ddr400 ram on a 333mhz fsb cpu? Thanks.

All five of the 2500s I have used would do 3200 speeds so I would go for ddr 3200 just in case you fancy trying it. The price difference is very minimal.

Regarding performance you will not notice any difference with running faster ram in a slower fsb processor. This is because they run in sinc and when the CPU runs a 333 the ram also runs at 333 even though its 400 ram.

But if your overclocking like most people with the 2500+ chips do as its so easy get 400 as previously said the price is minimal and overclocking is a Childs game with these cpus!
