What should I upgrade next ?

    Hi,

Come xmas I would like to buy something towards my pc as haven't made aa purchase a while and found out today i start my new job Monday

probably spend something less than £500 and my exact spec :

    • Athlon XP 2100 @ 2.2ghz
    • Epox 8rda+
    • 2 * Twinmos 512 pc3200 (BH5)
    • Hercules 9800 Pro
    • Soundblaster Audigy
    • Hauppauge Nova-T
    • Hitachi 7K50 160gig HD
    • Liteon DVD Rom
    • NEC 2510 DVDRW
    • Coolermaster 201b-sxk
    • Logitech DiNovo
    • Dell 1800FP 18' TFT
    • AOC 19' CRT

I believe that's everything that i can think of !

Now i think I might get either:

another Dell 1800FP 18' TFT to match my dual screen setup, but kinda hard to get hold of as not made anymore

or get new motherboard and RAM, probably Athlon 64, and by xmas be socket 939 and Nforce 4 ?

what do you reckon ? any other suggestions ?

    Thanks

I'd change the cpu, mobo and graphics with £500 to spare. If it costs over £500 just upgrade either mobo and cpu first (£250-£300)and flog your old cpu and mobo (£60-£70)and put that with the cash thats left to buy a decent gfx card.£300 will get you a class nvidia 6800GT which are favourite at the moment.

I'd start with CPU and motherboard. You may as well wait and see what n-force 4 is like. The really tough decision is do you wait for PCI express on n-force 4 or not.
If you get a VIA 939 mobo and a 90nm A64 3000 it would probably only cost £170. Use the rest for a new graphics card.

I'd personally upgrade the motherboard & CPU to socket 939 (AMD64) and keep the rest in the bank for now.

You're 9800 pro will handle nearly all games quite well, and then after christmas see how the graphics card market is then upgrade.

Or get a 6800 GT and sell your 9800 pro while they are still worth about £100, second hand.

Personaly, I hate water cooling! Air is much more dependable! I would get a CPU, mobo and perhaps a candy bar caus I'm hungry...
