Angry Need Some Advice Urgently :(

I have just built a new unit,
    AMD 64 3500 (939),
    Asus A8v deluxe mobo
1 gig (twined corsair XMS Pro)
    120 GB seagate Drive (7200)
Nvidia 6800 256 AGP GT ( Gainward Gold Edition ) GPU

This was a move up from a

    AMD 2700 TB core
    512 XMS corsair
    Nvidia 4200 ti
    asus mobo

I am seeing very little difference, Doom 3 is still jerky, if not more so when running at 1024 / 768 no VS no AA

& 3Dmark 2003 shows 3,4 or 5 FPS on the Troll CPU test!!!

i know i can over clock the GPU and CPU, but should i have to, to see an improvement???

Have tried the latest forcware drivers from Nvidia.com, no improvement on the drivers that came with the card??

As you can no doubt imagine i amk fairly P**sed at the mo, after spending £800 on what are supposed to be top knotch kit improvements

    Any advice would be welcome

Have you installed the VIA mobo drivers.
Your 3D mark should be 11000 or so without any overclocking.
Doom 3 should be ultrasmooth at 1024/768.

    Have you disabled fast writes?
I have read of people having a problem with the Via agp driver, apparently by installing sp2 then the 4 in 1 drivers but not the agp drivers, then the latest dets sorts this problem.

You should always install motherboard specific drivers. The graphics card drivers go on top of the mobo drivers.
