    Is this an acceptable setup?

I am just finalising my choice of new computer and have come to the conclusion that this setup will be reasonable for my needs!

    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+

    Motherboard: Abit AV8 3rd eye

    PSU: Thermaltake 480w Butterfly

    RAM: 2x 512mb Crucial Ballistix DDR PC-3200

Graphics: Sapphire ATI X800 XT PE

I am looking for feedback to make sure that these parts are compatible.

Any help, would be much appreciated.

Don't see a problem with that mate.
My personal preference would be a Tagan over the Thermaltake but nothing wrong with the Tt.

    Thank you .

I was just a little worried, as I had intended on getting an Antec PSU, but have seen reviews pointing out that the seem to be stability problems with the mobo.

i thought (maybe incorrectly) that the power issue was only with the asus mobo?

hope so cuz i have a cwt and that mobo coming so hopefully not!

its almost an identical rig to my new one, you wont be dissapointed

edit: it seems some are having trouble with the abit and the antec psu. i really wanted this board too, but an having second thoughts now

You ask people what they think of the system in terms of it being "reasonable for your needs" but never said what those needs were. In terms of compatibility I don't see a problem. The system you have picked is not cheap though. I think you could do a lot better for less money.

If you really want help you need to tell us what you want to accomplish with the system, how long do you want to keep it, how much do you want to spend, etc...otherwise we can only speak to the compatibility issue.

Personally I don't like Abit motherboards, especially their A64 stuff. I've had way too many problems with them. The Asus A8V is the best S939 board for most people. For extreme overclockers the GA-K8NSNXP is a little better because the vmods are easier, but my A8V is #10 in the world on 3DMark2001 and I'm just running my X800 XT on room temp water. Not bad for a fully non-modded motherboard.

The 3500+ is no bargain. None of the S939 stuff is. If you are going to spend the money required for a S939 setup you should get the FX-53. It's much more powerful. If money is a factor (if you are getting an X800 XT PE it can't be too much of a factor) the S754 stuff is a way better deal. Also you should keep in mind that the 3500+ and 3800+ S939 chips are slower than the 3400+ and 3700+ ClawHammer S754s even though the S939 is more $$$.

I had that TT PSU and it wasn't very good. Screamed a lot under heavy loads. I prefer OCZ or Enermax, 420 watts minimum.

    CPU - Great.

Motherboard - Get an Asus A8V Delxue and make sure its version 2.

PSU: I like Enermax or Antec for PSUs, or PC Power & Cooling. I've had problems in the past, and now trust only the very best.

RAM: That RAM is nice, consider a gig of OCZ 3700EB if you want something that will do a bit more, or some Corsair TwinX C2PT for something nice and cheap that performs well.

Graphics: Nothing but the very best. That's what I like to see. I paid £320 for my X800XT-PE though, don't pay much more than that.

    PSU: get the neopower

Graphics: X800XT-PE or get a vivo and bios flash it to 16pipes
