i need help with my wireless setup please

hi there

i just purchased a belkin wireless 54g router this one and im having a few probs setting things up (im also very new to networking) even tho the setup wizard is realy quite easy and it tells me all is fine my "wan" light keeps flashing orange (apparently this is a bad thing as it needs to be green) ive tried around 4 different network leads incase 1 was faulty and went through the setup numerous times now but still i cant get my wan light to stay constant green and it jus flashes orange.

ive got my main pc wired to the router and "i can" surf the web/net etc on that machine but on my laptop my my built in wireless tells me im connected with excellent strength yet i cant surf the web or anythin (page cannot be displayed etc) and when i try to connect through internet explorer my lappy tells me theres no connection to the internet available and offers me the option of workin offline or retrying for the connection,, ive just bought the laptop and its the first bit of wireless kit ive ever had so maybe im missing somethin as im new to wireless and donno much about it or networking either(i thought it would be as simple as buying a wireless router to enable me to surf anywhere in the house from my lappy and that was it ) my internet is blueyonder 1.5mb broadband and my cable modem is a surfboard sb4100 (im not sure but i think its made by motorola) if any 1 could help me ide be delighted becouse im itching to be able to surf wirelessly on my laptop.

also any help on the orange flashing wan light (which should be green apparently?) would be much appreciated.

Sometimes they say connected even when they aren't i suggest

1.Enable SSID broadcast on the Wireless AP (give the AP a custom SSID e.g. mico)
2.Disable WEP/WPA on Wireless AP
3.Disable WEP/WPA on Laptop
4.Make sure laptop wireless NIC is set to AP access point mode no ad hoc.
5.Make sure Laptop is set to get IP from DHCP
6.Make sure Wireless Broadcast is turned on, on the Wireless AP

Then
1.Try pinging the router typically 192.168.0.1
2.If internet works then add the WEP/WPA back
3.Use MAC filtering and LAN IP tables

if the net still doesn't work but you can ping the router try access another machine on your network from your laptop.

thanx for the reply but could you possibly explain this a little more in depth please as i have no idea at all about networking yet and i don even know where to start,any help at all will be fine thanx.
