can i do it from a cd instead seeing as my floppy disc is broken?
In a word, yes, for both. For the first question, unless you're planning to use a utility that downloads the new BIOS itself, you'll need to download it yourself and tell the utility where it is. As far as flashing from Windows goes, I don't see why you'd need either a stiffy or a CD. If you want to flash from CD outside Windows, you'll have to make it bootable (With DOS or something on it) and include the DOS flashing utility along with the BIOS image. Lastly, don't apologise for asking questions. If you don't know, it's the only way to learn.
The @bios will not connect to any servers and when i find the bios that i downloaded from gigabytes website, it won't open it and it says ' can not load ROM from BIN file. MAybe BIN ffile size not match.' Should i just double click on the bios i downloaded and run the program?
i use bios all the time, i cant be arsed to faff around in windows apps, it cant be god for the setup either, having to suddenly change when windows boots!
bios gives you simple results and you know what has gone wrong, why bother with apps that could wreck it all?
It could be that the download failed, and is incomplete. Try downloading it again, making sure it ends up at exactly 256KB (262,144 bytes).
Nope, i downloaded from a different mirror but it still says the same thing and i don't want to just double click on the bios i have downloaded because i am not sure what will happen.
What should i do?
Chances are, double-clicking on it won't do anything. If you haven't installed any programs that explicitly register the .F6 filetype for their own use, double-clicking on it will merely bring up the "Open With" dialog.
Not sure what else to tell you with the information I've got. *lightbulbs*
You did extract the BIOS first, right? In other words, you did run that bios_7s748_f6.exe file that you downloaded, and "Installed" to an easily accessable folder, correct? You'd then want to select the newly created 7S748.F6 file as your BIOS image, not the bios_7s748_f6.exe file.
If it's not that, then maybe there's something we missed. Not sure what else I could suggest. :/

I hadn't pressed on the bios exe file, now im left with the three extracted files-Flash879,7s748.f6 and auto.exe. Which one of them do i use with @bios to update the bios? Thanks Eldren.
Ok, the bios is updated but the only new feature i can see in the bios is something about pci latency and the options are 32, 64 and 128(it's set on 32) Other than the ram latency timings, nothing else has changed. Is the pci latency anything i can work with?
how far do you reckon i can overclock the fsb of 166 by until the hardrive starts acting up?
well, i put the fsb up to 173 and it's running at about 1.99ghz now which is a good start and the temps ar about 47 idle so good there as well. When i loaded easy tune to check my pci/agp bus speed it says my speed correctly but it says the agp is 66 and pci 33 which is what they would be if they were locked, maybe they are already locked, what do you think?
