If i'm right - It's an easy fix with no parts required. So should be cheap(er)
You might (gosh it's taken me a long time to figure that grammar out...) try the scan support forum here?
I hope so...
its had so little use :shocked2: , just seems strange that it wont boot. as i said my PC repair know how is practically non existent id probably end up doing more damage if i was to start pulling out video cards ...
When i called in at Scan the guy on the "customer services" desk says they didnt do fault finding or repairs unless under guarantee which at 3 years old mine it obviously isnt. He told me to take it to a PC repair shop !??
so i went to the main desk and asked to speak to a manger. He had a work with CS and i was asked to return it on Monday as more staff are available then :undecided
it doesn't inspire confidence but as they built the system i think they are best placed to sort it.
Do you have any knowlegeable family ? I'm fairly sure it needs a BIOS Flash
Can you get into the bios by hitting the delete key? If so, you could try resetting to the default values. Failing that, you could just take the CMOS battery out to achieve the same result...
Try resetting bios first as MrJim says, failing that follow Phage's advice, with Gigabyte boards it's a really easy 5 min fix once you can get it to boot from the back up bios. It should reflash the main bios chip automagically for you so you cant really go wrong and definitely worth having a go yourself. :) And yes for some reason the bios corrupts very easily on Gigabyte boards but thankfully very easy to fix so not too much of issue.
So scan just called ... Apparently the motherboard is goosed :-/
Wtf !!?? the thing hasn't seen more than 20 hors use in total.
they are going to replace the gigabyte z68 xp-ud 3p motherboard with a gigabyte z68 xp ud3 (£95)
Because the system is now over 3 years old apparently there isn't much out there that would be compatible with the chip set !?? To bring it up to date would be around £400.
I'm not happy having to spend on this machine considering it's had so little use but If I don't have it repaired I'm stuck with a machine that cost me over 1K and is useless. :-(
Sorry to hear it wasn't a simple fix. I assume they are only offering like-for-like to repair it? If on offer, a Z77 motherboard would give you USB 3 & PCI-e 3 support (depending on the CPU used).
excalibur, Dunno ....
I got the 2500k about a year after it's release and today a good price for a 4790k is around 200 on ebay. I'd have to change the system board out too. I am not too fussed for the around effective 500mhz improvement it may give me.
I'm lucky though to have snagged a 2500k and got a mobo free from Asus in an overclocking competition (Thanks HeXus).
I might do the upgrade on hobbyist grounds once the C series broadwell processors are benched and checked over. I kind of feel like it now.
It was a high overclock competition, with 2600k and the same equipment, GPU too (can't remember which).
Our team did really well and still came third (some real experts there!).
There were prizes grouped together, out team got to pick a group third and I snagged a B3 revision P67
still goin strong...
(sorry for the thread derailment, Ian Cc!)
