So in the real world what does that mean ? I listed everything from my original build spec. Are we saying it's impossible considering the original motherboard ?
How can I check ? Did I originally pay for a better processor and receive a lower spec ?
Sorry for sll the questions.
Re: System wont boot up !
As I joked the other week a i7 960 would not fit in your motherboard - from your photo we can see it is an Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P which is a socket 1155 motherboard, it also has all 4 memory slots full which means you have between 4GB & 32GB of memory and a stock Intel cooler not a "be quiet dark rock pro bk016 cpu cooler" as you believe.
So I would say something is fishy if you were originally quoted for a i7 960.

Link:- Comparison of i7 960 and i7 3770
If you've had the motherboard changed you can run Link:- CPU-Z in windows to identify processor.

I agree, do you have any documentation relating to your purchase from Scan ian c?
Re: System wont boot up !
A case befitting any crime TV series. I am curious now of what happened and how?
Where does he live by any chance? Half of his problems could be solved by anybody from here for a couple of drinks..

I'd do it without the drinks just to know the answer :) ...
Re: System wont boot up !
I'll see if I can dig out the original receipts for the system to see exactly what I was charged for.
I now have my system back complete with new motherboard...
Seems to be working ok apart from getting a message on start up saying because Of a recent hardware update I need to reactivate windows .... I can select ignore and windows starts as normal but there's a banner in the bottom right hand corner saying this is not a genuine copy of windows !!??

Shouldnt be much of an issue if its Win 7 or above. Just go to activation and use the automated telephone system to re activate. Its a free phone number and totally automated just gets a bit boring having to key in so many numbers!
Re: System wont boot up !
Please could put us out of misery and let us know what CPU you have by running CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
I'm guessing a 2600K which would be a comparable upgrade to a i7 960.

Fixed the windows error... just needed to enter the serial number from the sleeve again.
Re: System wont boot up !
Did you have any luck finding the original invoice? I'm also guessing you probably have 16GB and not 12GB; you can also check that with CPU-Z...
Pity you didn't get the specified CPU cooler as you may have been able to do some mild overclocking...

So you've actually got a better specced system that you originally thought, bonus! And even with the standard cooler you could give this a mild overclock if you ever wanted to.
Re: System wont boot up !
Grrrr! Had a blue screen of death last night ... Re booted ok !
