Still if you want to stick with the laser technology and want colour as well, i suppose you could go with a Konica Minolta Magicolour 2300W (typical british spelling). However, this is roughly £300+.
Poor guy, and all he wanted was a decent printer for under £50. haha

Hated my Canon printer (cheapest I could find a couple of years ago, so I probably deserved problems), it was forever getting blocked nozzles and leaving gaps in my photos. Probably because I didn't use it that much, but apparently HP are much better for not getting blockd nozzles.
