Only downside to baby wipes (or pretty much any pop-up wipe) is that the majority of them aren't lint/particle free, and the corners of a lot of laptop keys are sharp and pointy. They're good for pretty much everything else, though.

Looks a little cheaper than my source, I'll link both the standard bottle and a spray version since people are suggesting spray (though its just a normal spray not aerosol):
    Spray: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005Z1K8OC
    Bottle: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005Z1K86K
£7 for 250ml there, though the 500ml version is just barely more expensive (by about 50p generally) so I reckon most the price is actually them adding postage to the item price.

Thanks everyone, will get some IPA stuff and cotton cloths. Comments really appreciated, my bottle of bleach can now go back to being used in the kitchen.

Re: What Do You Use To Clean Keyboards

I have worked in IT for years and for me the only way to clean a keyboard, pop all the keys off using a screwdriver or other flat impliment, pc case backplate that covers empty pci slots, put the keys in 3 or 4 old socks tied at the end and throw them in next lot of washing. Now use a toilet brush, yes a toilet brush to scrub the keyboard clean, they cost like 60pence, dont use the one sat next to your bog... come on chaps...
Put the keys back in and your done.

it's a laptop, not so simple to pop them off with the thin plastic x-frame they sit on
maybe stick at it for a few more years & buy a key remover if you don't want to damage anything.

Personally I prefer to stick a keyboard lid in the dishwasher if you can separate it from the membrane like most modern ones allow. a lot easier than popping all the keys off and the dishwasher tab kills off the germs unlike a washing machine.

Yes, I have ordered some IPA spray so going to give that a go first, unfortunately its one of those laptops where the keys are under the main frame and poking through so have to take a fair bit of the laptop apart just to get the keyboard out unlike my last laptop which was just a couple of screws!

Re: What Do You Use To Clean Keyboards

I recently received some keyboard cleaning stuff that I hadn't seen before....they were squishy putty-like balls that you can push into crevices and then pull out covered in what was in there....you can then clean them and re-use them.

I haven't got around to trying them yet though so unsure how good or bad they are - they were damn cheap though.

I saw them on ebay while looking for cleaning materials, I just wasn't sure really, seems like one of those things that just sounds too good to be true especially with the bacteria destroying function! Let me know how you get on with them and if they are any good.

Re: What Do You Use To Clean Keyboards

I have a 100L compressor for blasting the dust and crap out, but I'd like to clean the sides of each key as well. I'm not keen on getting a G19 wet as it has a lot more than just key actuators inside and I'm equally unkeen just popping them off with a screwdriver, as I've always damaged the caps doing it that way.

Are there any generic keycap pullers that will work on a G19?

I use babywipes for keyboards, but I have not found the happy combination for screens (TV, laptop) I have tried for the laptop screen to use wipes for glasses but it says on the label not to use on LCS monitors (I´vee seen the label after the deed had been done)

    THE WIFE.

I say that safe in the knowledge that she'd stick the keyboard up my jacksie (width-ways rather than end-on) before doing chores on my behalf. I'd better go and get the dinner on before she comes home. #whimper

Seriously though, nothing fancy. Microfiber duster, slightly damp if the keyboard is getting a bit spoogy. Turn it over and give it a tap to get the fluff and sandwich crumbs out.

Just tried the magic goo stuff, it actually work very well on a corsair k70.

Then showed it to a laptop and total failure, there just wasn't enough room in and around the keys for the goo to get in.

Looking at my laptop keyboard, I think I would be most inclined to remove the keyboard completely and pop it in the dishwasher!

you cannot separate the membrane so you risk blowing the keyboard controller even if you dry it for months after.

wouldn't a change of keyboard be better? I doubt you could wash a laptop keyboard and have it function afterwards
