    sound-proofing cases

I have got some left-over foam packaging that looks similar to the stuff you see in sound studio walls to muffle excess sound (the bumpy stuff), 'acoustic foam' i think its called and looks like this:

I have two slabs of about 12" by 10", so about the right size to stick in the case on the side walls. If i stuck this on the inside of a case would it impeed airflow and cook things inside, or silence the noise from inside? i know there's special stuff you can get but this looks like it could do the job - am I way off on this or would it be ok...

You'll generally want foam designed as acoustic foam, not packaging or it won't block much noise.

It would probable just collect dust and keep the heat inside the case.

Hehe - reminds me of being in an anechoic chamber which had loads of triangular spikey foam on the walls. You could swear allday at someone and they wouldn't hear a thing.

Packaging foam is probably not dense enough anyway. It would make an improvement but any holes would un do all that.
