Blu-Ray (25 GB) and HD-DVD (15 GB) are the two technologies competing to take over from DVDs.

Personally in terms of video i dont see that much of a need to go to a resolution of 1920 x 1080. But you never know, maybe one day ill have a good enough tv to notice the difference.

It takes the same length of time to rip a full disc no matter it is CD, DVD or Blu-Ray. The data density only mean more data can be read each time, time taken to travel from innermost to outermost of the disc does not change.

Once you have seen some 1920*1080 movies at FULL RESOLUTION you will dump your DVDs. If your TV sucks, no matter if its a VHS, a VCD, a DVD or HDTV they will look the same.

Actually I'd expect ripping of higher density media to take longer from the offset, given the extra bandwidth of data in need of processing.
