    Question Building a new rig....

    Hi there,
I’m building a new rig, and have everything but the CPU cooler and RAM. It’s an Athlon 64 3000+ (Winchester) with an ASUS A8V Deluxe Wireless Edition Motherboard. 400W of power, everything else sorted. I have two fans in (one 120mm fan at the front, an 80mm at the side) and two 80s out at the back. I want to overclock the processor, and don’t know which cooler to get. It’s got to be air cooled, and preferably quite quiet, but the rest of the set up isn’t exactly silent. There’s 3 hard drives in their that make it quite warm. Also, what RAM would you recommend on a budget? I’m thinking about the GeIL value 1Gb dual channel kit (£75). Anything better for that kind of money?
Any opinions, comments or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

A Thermalright XP-120 perharps, I thinks it's still one of the best, and get yourself a quiet 120mm fan, job done

Yeah, that looks pretty good, thanks. Quite big though, I'm hoping it doesn't cause a problem. Say's it's ok with my motherboard on the site though. Any suggestions on RAM, anybody? Does anybody have the GeIL value 1Gb dual channel kit?

i bought the geil dual channel kit and it works fine in my gf's aopen ez18 sff pc. At the end of the day its value ram, so not gonna be too great for overclocking. Its worth paying the extra money, how about 2x256mb sticks of crucial ballistix pc3200? should cost you about the same and you can always upgrade to a gig later.

I can vouch for this cooler with a 120 mm fan. Oc'ed my 3500 newcastle to 2600mhz with temps no highter than 36 idle (Epox board reporting). Had it on my Asus A8V and it fitted no problem.

If you need some mem i've got some Geil Ultra PC4000 (1 gig off) here. I just got hold of some Gskill so don't need it any more. I don't have enough posts yet to sell on here (so soz mods if this is a rule breaker and please delete if so), check my trust on OCUK 40+. Anyways

    Cheers buzz
