Amd To Be Boned By Intel

The Pentium V is likely to fly along at between 5GHz to 7GHz, have 2MB plus of level two cache, be built on a 90 nanometer process, and have a stackable design
tho with the AthlonFX64 AMD will BONE Intel until P5

AMD have been getting seriously wooped by Intel for some time now with the advantage of HT and SSE2, by the sounds of it the P V will be no exception, lets just hope the new range from AMD will give them a run for there money.

All this consdered i'll stick with my AMD chips i just cant justify to myself paying Intel prices for a chip when i can have a AMD chip for half the price that still performs pretty darn good,

Everybody is hyping up the P5 (Or will it still be P4??), but I am still doubting it will be as good as everybody is saying it will be. Who cares if it is at 7ghz, when it can only do a few operations per cycle. And it will be way more expensive than AMD, as its going to need some seriously good air-cooling, or watercooling to be able to keep it stable. Some of the leaked stats are saying that it will pump out >100watts of heat

    Precisely.

I don't care what the clock speed of my PCU is. I don't care what benchmark results it gets. All I care about, from a performance perspective, is what practical difference it makes to any of the jobs I expect the PC to do.

Other than that, factors like price, cooling requirements (therefore noise levels) are FAR more important to me than how many Megahertz, GigaHertz or TeraHertz a CPU is supposed to run at.

In much the same way, I don't care what the size of the engine in my car is, per se, but I'm interested in whether acceleration in various speed bands is adequate, whether the pulling power is enough and so on. If I can get what I need from a one litre engine, great. (I can't, by the way ).

well intel have had one in the eye, the prescott is apparantly 64bit, and because m$ refuses to develop more than one 64 bit home os, they have told intel to use x86-64...

that and the p5 is quite a way away yet, by the time its released, you can expect amd to be at that level...

Intel's processors might be a bit faster than AMD's, but considering there's like a 300% price increase for an Intel, AMD are still ontop IMHO.

The Pentium V is likely to fly along at between £5,000,000 to £7,000,000, have 2 moronic buntyheads posting threads like this per forum, and be built on a profit margin of 60%
    *fixed.

    what a waste of space...

What did VIA do with the Cyrix CPU manufacturing, close it down?
