xp-120 would be my best bet... add in a high output 70cfm 120mm fan... you could probably get a 3000+ pass 2.8Ghz (thats when u have a high HTT ceiling mobo)... 3200+ would be good, as the 10x multiplier help alot when you're going for a lower bus speed (under 300 HTT), high clock speed setting.. TBH, I liked 3500+ the most as the 11x multi can breach 2.8Ghz under 270Mhz HTT and its only 150 quids for the OEM.. scrap the retail, xp-120 is the way!... again, 270 HTT will leave u plenty of head space for extra clocking once you decide to go coolant/dry-ice cooling...

Storm what would be the better system.
Go for the 3.7 AMD and get the lesser Gfx card (say the 6600GT)
Or go for the 3.0 AMD and get the X800XL and look to update the CPU sometime down the line.

For games the 3000+ and X800XL is the better bargain, but for CPU power and overclocking the 3700+ is a monster, and it will still play games very well with the 6600GT especially with that kind of CPU power.
