good conenction (no, broadband isnt good enuf unless u want 56k like pings and a max of 8 players).

u need fast server, but that would depend on game and settings...

dpends on what u wanna use server for..? if its a clan sevrer to play matches rent one, u wont get decent enuf performance/ping for proper mtches from a broadband conenciton

depends on the game, most games use between 4KB/s to 10KB/s per client, a good spec machine and a static IP unless you want a changing one.

some games have a "server file" so check for the game you want to see if it does and for the bandwidth useage.

you don't necessarily need a very fast computer, but it does depend on what game(s) you are wanting to run. remember that you won't be doing any graphical work so graphics card isn't important, a small hard drive will probably surfice for the o/s and game + any extra maps/mods etc, you can have it remotely monitored so no need for a monitor. processor really depends on what game(s) you are wanting to run but faster is better.

the big thing is indeed the connection, you'll need an ISP/connection which will allow you to run a server for a start, general home connections aren't really very suitable as most are asymetrical with maximum upload speeds of 256k which when spread out among a number of players doesn't work out to much, and also you add on the time from the ISP to your server and back again.

next step up is a leased line and they don't come cheap, especially if you're not in a big town/city, but they are the only real way to go if you want decent pings for the players. you can get various bandwidths, symetrical lines, and you get better pings, but the pings do still depends on what company you go with and server location, so the less hops to the players machines the better.

unless you've got some special need to have your own server i'd definately recommend hiring, it'll work out a lot cheaper.
