at the mo.. just get ur system running with your IDE as boot.. you could retry ur SATA config once ABIT figure out the problem...

Get ur IDE running, and try out some OC config.. mine does 10 x 270 fine, try it out and post back...

    WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FINALLY!!!! FINALLY I HAVE DONE IT!

Yes, after several evenings of swearing profusely at my computer, it is now up and running. Not an IDE HDD in sight!

Sawyen, I'll run some benchmarks etc soon, but it's fair to say on the whole the computer is running like a flipping fast thing!

Still not entirely sure what the problem was - although in the on chip bit for the BIOS there is a bit about USB emulation (I think that is what it was), and for some reason with that turned on it wouldn't accept that the Raptor was there with a perfectly valid installation of XP.

    Anyway, just to reiterate....

    WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO IT's WORKING!!!!!!

I take it that you are currently socket 754, and moving939. If thats the case, I would look at and OEM x2 3800 processor which costs about £235. Further, I would go for the Nforce 3 boards rathern and VIA (personal choice). You can get a K8N Neo 2 board for £63+vat. I would just change your MB and processor and leave the rest of your rig as it is. No point changing perfectly good corsair memory. In the long run, we will have to make the switch to DDR2.

    Eh?

The setup is s939, and I have just upgraded the PSU, RAM, CPU, MOBO, HDD, case, and all the optical drives, so I'm not likely to be upgrading my rig any time soon! I was running a socket A Athlon 2600+

I'm guessing you've only read the first page of this thread, and as such I'm afraid you're a couple of weeks too late.

On this front, I've managed to screw something else up , I routed a few of the cables on my new case under the mobo - it looks superb, but I think I may have pierced a cable with one of the "pins" on the underside of the mobo and it's probably causing a short. Got to take the mobo out of the case and get all the cables out of the way, reseat it and it should all be fine....

....Got to love a nice overcomplicated build

Right, back to a working computer! I'd pierced a cable under the mobo as I thought might be the case, whipped them out from under it and its all working nicely now.

    Thank f*%k for that!

Sawyen, I WILL now look at overclocking it and getting some benchmarking done!
