If thats true, i'll expect NASA to be phoning me up soon about my miracle mouse.

One thing that is in the manual, is that to charge you should leave it switched on when the mouse is in the bay. Might want to check that mate. :/

tsk manuals I don't even recal getting one! Though its probably still in the box.

I brought the Optorite ML100 Laser Mouse from the US via a certain auction site and although it uses a cord it has no battiers and the same lazer tech as the logitech and for £20 seems to work fine

Is there any warning other than the solid red light when the mouse is about to run out? Such as it starting to flash?

Yes there is. If you run MS messenger then the logitec software sends you a messege popup when the battery is low.

I can confirm the mouse will charge when the mouse is turned off.

Dougal - you don't need to turn the software off to middle click in FF. Do this.

Open Set point > highlight "middle button" > under "Select Task" click other

click the Select Function button and select either "middle button" or "generic button".
