hi philb34,
Most important thing to consider is 12v Amps rather than overall watts.
This may help Power Suppy Requirements & Selection
Luck on your build
Biggest consideration is GPU really, you want a good brand high powered on, id reccomend the tagan 480.
I have one of the older Seasonics (400w Tornado) but the new S12 are supposed to be very good as well (quietness is one of the features).
Personally I'd go for the biggest PSU you can buy as it's one of the few things you'll take with you from one system to another and system power requirements will only increase as time goes on and components get more powerful. If you have some time you can go to the manufacturer's website for the components you'll want to buy and see how much current they draw. You need to know how much a drive, say will require when running but also at bootup when it needs more power to spin up (an average IDE drive uses 12w but can be as high as 17w when going through POST). It's always good to have a nice overhead, say 20% so that your system never really has to strain to do it's work.
As a rule, you can't go wrong with Enermax or Tagan supplies but whatever you choose you need to look at the small print and see how good the 12v rail is. Anything over 24v is good and will cope with a heavy load. If you're buying in a shop, the heavier it feels the better. I use a system that requires a lot power and I'm always trying to keep system noise levels down too. My personal favourites are Enermax Noisteakers, the OCZ Modstream and the Tagan EasyCon or 2Force as these are all PSUs I've used or am currently using. The only two I'd avoid are Antec (I had two that overheated to around 80 degrees surface temperature and the Silenx iExtrema Pro units as these just can't cope with hot summers )
Lastly, look at the number of connectors it offers and importantly, read up as to how reliable or flexible they are if you have a smallish case to work in you'll appreciate cables that can be tucked out of the way or are easy to connect/pull out.
Lol, someone needs the preview button But yeah, anything over 24A on the 12V rails, or about 15A each if they're split rails, which a lot of new supplies are.Originally Posted by OmarSantiago

Thanks a lot for that guys, sorry for being a noob!
Just found the GIGABYTE AURORA likey likey.......
I have the Globalwin version of the Akasa Eclipse. IMHO one of the best cases i've owned.
If you want to build a really quiet rig then the Akasa might be better. With my low end setup the system is very quiet. The noisest thing was the Barracuda 4/5 hard disks.
If you are going to change from the Akasa - have you considered the the Antec P180?
I did consider that(180) the gigabyte has a shiny light though......ahem.
go for the HiperPower Type-R 580W Modular Blue PSU.
is the best PSU i ever own. i feel my psu is wireless now
I've got the Hiper Type-R 480w and have had no problems at all with that.
I'd just echo all of the above, go for a well known high power PSU - it's all about allowing for any future changes you're gonna make.
My Hiper 580W Modular PSU should be arriving today.
