I use Symantec Coporate Antivirus as it's free of bloatware than comes packaged with things like norton thesedays.
I use AVG on machines with broadband connections and Avast on machines with dial up connections.
I find the incremental updates are smaller with Avast until a real biggie comes down the line once in a while.
I had both of them on a PC once and AVG intercepted the virus before Avast got a look in.
I go with AVG
Free, updates over the web automatically, and has picked up viruses and got rid of them withut fuss.

FreeAV - made by Germans ftw.
Hmm, not sure about what you say, but Norton is normally a very good product. It's detection rates are as high as 97% depending on what stats you look at, it's very bloated, and only 3% better at detection of non-in the wild virii then NOD32, but uses many more resources, so for gamers NOD32 is way better. But for non-gamers or power users, Norton is actually a very good product.
Thats a very sweeping statement.Originally Posted by hitharder

700 PC's out of how ever many there are in the world isn't that many is it ?
dont forget , protecting yourself is more than just using AV software - keep abreast of windows updates is just as important ( as well as many other common sence fixes which have been mentioned so many times I wont wear my keyboard out any more mentioning them )
actually you might be correct... you must have been hit badly by it , its stuck your Caps Lock key down. I suggest a dishwasher is the only way to rid yourself of the sticky key.
Go to a more competent PC shop next time and the infact can probably be fixed without having to rebuild.

I use the free version of Avast which seems to do the job ok.
lol moby dick. the 700 were just laptops to this one shop. but i aint a complete ninny. i tried all the stuff that u guys said which tba i am very grateful for. but ur right i was hit pretty bad. and a friend of mine was, and sum random chinese girl who had the same problem on the same day. i think it is just weird or typical countryside blues. btw the washingmachine wasnt strong enough.
These were my roughly my thoughts too. A rebuild/full reinstall shouldn't have been needed, I'm curious that any worm which is heavy duty enough to have knocked out as many PC's as you're implying hasn't a: been sorted out by symantec, who are usually extremely promt in recognising and releasing solutions for virii and b: hasn't been mentioned in any of the online tech mags (slashdot, the inq, the register) I read. Anyway, more info/links would be intresting.Originally Posted by Moby-Dick

I'd recommend Avast unless you use Outlook 2003 and MSN Desktop Search, which I do
I've been forced to switch to CA Ez-Trust (free years trial if you follow that link) untill they get the bug sorted.
