    Memory Upgrade for Sony UltraPortable

I have a little Sony Vaio UltraPortable (PCG-C1MGP) running Windows XP. The bootup time is crazy (over 10mins!!!) and the sytem is so slow to use. It only has 128Mb RAM installed and only 112Mb usable by the system. Clearly a RAM upgrade is necessary. I've opened the cover to find what I initially thought was a SODIMM socket but it looks to small.

Does anyone know what type of memory I can install in this and what the largest memory module I can install?

    Thanks in advance.

Best bet is to buy from Crucial which is recommended memory for major vendors like Dell and in some cases won't invalidate your warranty if open your PC up to upgrade (I don't think your laptop will come under this category though). They have a very simple wizard that allows you to find the module you need and will even tell you what's the maximum amount of RAM that board will take. They also have the best warranty and customer service in the memory business so have a look - the price should be pretty good too.

    There called Microdimm's

Have a look on ebay for microdimm, picturebook, vaio memory etc... use your imagination as people sell them under all sorts of dodgy titles.

I have a load of 64MB stick but these are probably what youve already got

Also they dont normally take long to load up at all, I would suggest youve got a knackered HDD there or its desperatley in need of a restore !

Thanks for the link OmarSantiago. I've used Crucial before but in this case the website couldn't find any products.

I searched Ebay and found some MicroDIMMs for sale but they don't list my Sony as one of those it supports.

Any other ideas where I can get hold of some memory for this laptop?

a Microdimm is a Microdimm is a Microdimm

Presuming you have a model with 64mb onboard and a 64mb microdimm you would be safe with a 128 or 256mb microdimm of pretty much any make.

Any microdimm that says its compatable with any C1xxx series will be fine. It doesnt need to specifically say your model number
