<oh, I checked the other card, it indeed looks like its suffering from the eeprom bug>

I've got a audigy 2 but use my onboard, and have done for a couple of years now. This is because it sounds like CRAP!!! heh, though its probably just my ears. The more I think about it however, and read people raving about them, surely its not just me, or is my card dodge? everything seems to work fine on it. Almost like its got no feeling in the mid-range, very weak. I blamed it on the speakers, until plugging in the onboard...

Odd. Having tried to use on board sound a number of times, I have always reverted back to a SoundBlaster for sound quality issues.

Crackling/static on playback and poor sound level and quality on the mic ports has put me off onboard sound forever.

Funnily enough I've got an Audigy 2 card sat doing nothing at the moment. Had probs with a game at one point and felt it might be the card. The fault turned out to be something else in the end but by this time I had removed the card and enabled onboard audio.

Onboard audio quality seems to have improved greatly over the years and I was impressed with the clarity. Will probably stick it in one of my other PC's that I beleive is still running on a aging Creative PCI128 card.

Hey, thanks for the offer fella, much appreciated but I was talking to a mate of mine in the boozer last night and he fancied having a pop at fixing it up.

Davey - where about in Herts are you?

Well a few years down the line and a Google search later I thought I would have to sign up here and set the record straight.

really dont feel like slinging the card back into this machine just to
take a screen shot of the error that we've been talking about for the
last month and a half. The best I have been able to obtain is the card
recognised as an SB compatible device on an old HP machine, though any
driver install fails. I don't believe that the card is sound (excuse the
pun) though it may one of the OEMs built for a specific hardware
manufacturer and thus tied to a specific vendor. I've been in the IT
business for pretty much all of my professional life, I know when things
are right and when things are wrong - this falls within the grey area
between the two, there are some specific attributes of this card that
prevent it from being a generic and hence why I feel that it is tied to
a specific vendors build, in the same manor that OEM irix scsi
controllers will only work on OEM irix manufactured boards (perhaps not
the best example but you get the idea).

You seem like a good lad and I don't believe you are trying to deceive
me but it does appear that you are not willing to take the card back and
refund an amount of the monies that I paid you - this is disappointing,
if you are strong in your belief that the card is ok then you could
re-sell on ebay. For the sake of £40 I think that we should draw a line
under the whole thing and I'll just bin the damn thing!

Overall far from the best transaction that I have been involved with but
such is life.

I genuinely wish you all the best with your exams and hope that you get
the results you want.

-Mj
I thought the transaction was settled at that point (08/07/2005) and received no further correspondence from yourself. I was happy to further try and fault find the issue with you and if that was unsucessful I would have (regettably, given the purchase situation) provided a refund.

Maybe it was a OEM card - Who knows. You knew the full situation prior to purchase, I told you in good faith prior to purchase that it would only work in one of my own computers, not both. I was unable to solve the issue so put it down to a hardware conflict within my pc, as it possibly was in yours.

P.S. The exams went turned out great in the end, thanks
