Corsair are not renowned anymore as the best ram Not on places like Xtremesystems (the guys of who I trust a lot), Corsair has a good name. But that doesn't mean it is the best... Muskin has always been respected as the best in my eyes, but you've always paid for the best. OCZ in my eyes, these days with their good customer support is the second best, then GEIL due to good prices and then Corsair last due to high prices and nothing to write home about on quality.

Twinmos own brand personally isn't very good for tight timmings in my experience, I had trouble getting much above 200mhz using Cas2, tight timmings. Make I've just been unlucky.

Also trying the ram and then sending it back, well personally not a big fan of doing that. It is not a try before you buy service, bit dishonest to send them back if they make their rated speed and timmings.

EDIT- Just having seen Headrat's post what he says is true, it should be in unopened condition if you use the "cooling off period" as it is called.

ahh yeah that wasn't to you planetside

That was to Austin's post hehe

You are more than entitled to return them of course if they don't do rated timings They will do, well I haven't had any sticks that wouldn't manage what they are guaranteed for at SPD settings

What was it I said KAIN? I didn't say to o/c the RAM (or even tighten the timings) and then return it, simply mentioned returning and o/c'ability in the same post. As for getting RAM that can't do what it claims the most widely known for it was Geil as their early stuff was little more than severely overvolted PC2100 with heat spreaders as opposed to true PC2700-3200. If you avoid generic you should find it always can do what it claims and if you don't mind voiding the warranty should o/c pretty well too.

Planetside Barton XP2500+ runs at 1.8ghz which is 11x166 (166x2=333FSB effectively). Setting it to 9x200=1.8ghz is not technically o/c'ing it and will allow you to maximise your RAM's potential. You should find that any Barton should be pretty happy at 2.0ghz (roughly XP2800+ with 400FSB) undervolted (1.55v?) for perf and quiet/cool running ... if you want max perf you should find XP3200+ (11x200=2.2ghz) doable and often with pretty normal voltages (1.65v - 1.70v). There's no guarantee when o/c'ing, just take small steps and test thoroughly each time to ensure you truly are stable ... you need to find your particular part's own max o/c.
