Sata Wtf How??????

hi,
i have just got my weston digi 320gb sata and like i have a power connector and a molex WTF. i have tried both and had my akasa sata cable plugged into my mobo and hard drive.and wow it doesnt pick it up in either bios or windows
can someone tell me wtf is going on as it is starting to p*ss me off now.sposed to be simple and all...

i think with sata you need a boot disk to install a driver

i would check wd site for install instructions

could be a setting in your bios check your mobo manual aswell

well i want to install it into my existing windows system so will i still need to use a floppy as if i do thats annoying as i dont have one plugged in.can i do it by cd instead.you got a link aswell plz?

Use only either the SATA power connector or the Molex - never both.
Depending upon the SATA controller in your PC you may well have to load a driver for the controller.
Then of course you will have to initialise/format ...

First off - try using proper english instead of "this cack" etc.

On the back of the hard drive plug a Molex cable into the molex slot (If you do not have a SATA power cable on your PSU - if you do have a SATA power cable on your PSU then use that instead)

Next you plug the SATA cable into your motherboard's SATA connections and boot up the system.

You didn't state what motherboard you have but somewhere in the BIOS there will be a setting to enable SATA - enable it if it is not enabled already.

Then you find out what motherboard you have and go to the manufacturers website and download the SATA driver for your motherboard and install it in windows.

Then go to computer management (Right click my computer -> manage) and click on the Disk Management tab - in there you will have your new disk, right click the volume and create a partition and then format that partition.

i have a asus a7n8x-e deluxe... the sata drive is a " Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 320GB 3200JD SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-045-WD)" now i went through the bios and manual and didn't find anything. i did check but maybe i missed something. now could someone give me a link to the required xp driver? but i thought i wouldn't need drivers as its XP but ok btw it isn't showing in computer management either

Ok you have a Sil 3112 controller on that board - you should be able to download the driver from ASUS.
Never used that board but somewhere in the BIOS there should be an option to enable/disable SATA (possibly in Integrated Peripherals).

WTF! now its saying in order to use these drivers that i just waste an hour downloading i have to use the found new hardware tab that appears when drives plugged in-ermmmm hmmm it aint even detected what do i do

An OS can only access devices connected to interfaces presented to it through the BIOS.

If the BIOS doesn't report a USB/SATA/serial/firewall/insert-future-tech-here port, then the OS won't be able to see any device through that interface.
(The ability to actually use hardware through said ports requires the kernel-mode driver.)

Took a look at the PDF manual on Asus' website - have a look on page 2-17, point 6.
"Serial ATA jumper : This jumper enables or disables the Serial ATA controllers
Pins 1-2 = enabled
Pins 2-3 = disabled"

format

He meant you'll need to format the new drive, not re-format your OS drive and re-install Windows. All drives come RAW, then you format with NTFS or FAT32 depending on what you want to use.

If your SATA controller is enabled in your bios (might as well check to be sure, should be listed in "onboard devices" or something), then all you need to do is install the driver in Windows, restart, and Bob's your uncle. You'll then probably need to "initialise" the new drive in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management.

er ok i did jumpers and it told me my 9800pro was dead WTF! after taking it out and plugging back in it procedded to not boot into windows.then did and lagged and here i am.its just installed a raid controller but i have a single sata hdd and aint running raid so whats going on here.it comes up in the boot do i want to configure a raid setup.but then i tried it just incase and no device detected. WHAT IS GOING ON PEOPLE!

I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe, which is practically the same motherboard, and he does actually indeed want the Sil RAID drivers. I had a floppy disc with both seperate at one point, and it only liked the RAID drivers, which worked perfectly.
