    FAO: Abit AN8 Ultra Owners

Does the heatsink/pipe work well, or does it get too hot?

I read a few reviews, and some say the heatsink/pipe does not work as well as the normal fan based systems, and some say it works well.

Also, does it overlock well? Some say it does, some say it doesnt.

I will be using a Opteron 146, so I will be trying to overclock it to around 2700ghz, and also a 7800GT.

Mine seems to work well although that may be due to the fact that it is catching air from the XP-120 but it doesn't have a very powerful fan on it.
Just don't put it in a Lian-Li V1000 etc. where you have to install upside down as it won't work (nor will the ASUS equivalent).

AN8s are known to have hit over 400HTT on air & 300 shouldn't be a problem at all (with an appropriate multi).

My 146 will do 2700GHz on stock voltage.

I have the AN8-SLi with an Opteron 148 and 7800GT, and no complaints from me.

I'm not sure if my heatpipe works well or not? I have a watercooling rad in the front of my case with a 120mm fan. This blows over the board and along the heatpipe. I also modded the rear of my case with a 120mm fan and positioned it to suck through the OTES heatsink and exhaust the case.

My temp probe and MBM5 show the case temp to be around 30-35C all the time.

Finally, never tried for max HTT, only got to 282, which is good enough for 3.1Ghz with my 148.

Sometimes wish i had bought an Ultra instead of the SLi, purely because i only have one 7800GT, and couldn't be tempted to buy a second 7800GT then

Thanks for that m8, I was thinking of getting the Silverstone wind tunnel case, where the mobo hangs upside down.

    Phew!
