    Non budget inkjet printer

I am looking for an inkjet printer for about £170 (i can go over). My main concern is the price of ink but obviously i want good prints too!

If my understanding is correct, the more expensive inkjets (how much do i need to spend?) have cheaper ink that the cheap ones, right?

I was looking at laser printers for £200 but they are too big!

I am not particulary bothered about whetether it has a screen or not, but it would be good to have networking.

My old Epson R300 will be going on my linux PC and as far as i can tell, authough not from epson, linux support is fine (im on unbuntu 5.04 and 5.10 apparently works out of the box, but there are drivers available too!)

If you want to use Linux, then I believe that HP and Epson are the best printers to go for. You can check specific printers over here:

    http://www.linuxprinting.org

I've just got an HP5740, which was under £50. For text, it's absolutely fine, and photos were pretty good considering the cost and the lack of a photo cartridge, so the more expensive models should be even better!

Yeh the IP5200 looks good or you could save a few pennies and go for the IP4200 (only difference between two, IP5200 prints faster)

One thing i would like to know is what is what is the difference in price compared to otherprinters? If i was to buy a top of the range printer would the ink cost less that compared to a really cheap or mid range printers ink?

Canons in that range are cheap to refill n run in general... Each colour has its own tank and is therefore individually replaceable. Alternative cartridges are available for a lot less e.g. less than £2 each compared to the average shop price of £7 - £8 for originals. Print speed n quality are good across the range.
