Wow, a high performance AMD dual core uses >150W?

I am going to have to think twice about going 430W now...
(big price difference between a Seasonic 430W and a Seasonic 500W PSU).

Bah, this thing won't tell me what my current print/bittorrent server is using... Any guesses on what a

    K6-II 500
    2 x 256Mb PC100
    2 x 3C905-TX NICs
    Onboard SIS Sound/VGA
    1 x 30Gb Laptop HDD (4200rpm)

    would use?
    In fact, what's the TDP of a K6-II 500?

Well, it comes our with 300watt's for my system, which has a 300w PSU in it

    1800+ Tbred
    2*PC3200
    Ati 9600pro
    1 sata drive
    1 dvd-rom
    1 cdrw
    1 dvdrw
    1 fdd
    2*pci nic
    1 pci wifi card
    1 pci tv card
    few fans

    Thats all fine....

...However, what i dont get, is that when i stick my "energy meter" on the plug of the pc, load it up to the max (defragging hdd, burning dvd, cpu burn, and 3d benchmark) it only draws about 110watts of power. Under 100 at idle.
    - So that means the psu is seamly not only 100% effiencty, but actally conjuoriung up 200watts of power out of the ether... ?

The figures are usually taken from the manfacturers max rating. Which even with all the things you said is very hard to reach. For example, even during CPUburn, you will not be using every single ALU and FPU in the CPU and the defrag and 3d benchmarks will be taking less power because now they're CPU limited.

It's almost impossible to completely max the power consumption, usually it will happen for a split second which is when your PC, BSOD and restarts if your PSU aint up to the job.
