    Can Hardware get any Cheaper?

I ask you....can Hardware become much cheaper, before people start going Belly Up? I know you all like to have a deal, BUT people HAVE to make money somehow. Prices are, I think, too low on most stuff.

    I'll give you an example:
I'm gonna buy the Soltec QBic nforce Mirror Front small form tractor that Tarinder reviewed last week from David. And I need to "Furnish " it.

So....as I was already thinking about a new CPU, this is the ultimate chance. I buy a 2500 XP to seeif its quicker and I use the 1700+ chip in this Qbic at 2600+. Or vice-a-versa...we shall see......BUT: that new chip is only just over £60 inc Vat. Quite incredible. But....BUT....its gets better/worse.

I need a HDD. I dont need lots of space, but its virtually RUDE to have less than 40gig and 60 gig is sooooo cheap I trust Maxtor AND Western Dig, so I peruse both.

Maxtor 60gig Plus 9 7200 with 8mb cache : £47 inc vat. *shakes head* quite quite incredible. I brought 2.....someone at work is BOUND to want one for £50.....I mean.....COME ON. PC World want £600000 for one

I need a CD drive......we all know its got to be a burner combo, cos thats just what you need. Liteon 52 speed Read and 52 speed Write and 32speed Re Write.....LESS THAN £30 inc VAT.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE ? THATS TOO CHEAP.

Ahhahhhh. But what about Delivery? That's where someone has your pants down.....isn't it?

NOPE: So long as you are in no hurry, a man with a van, will drop into your place of work, and bring it too you for £3.99. All of it. Boxed. Padded. It COSTS 50p to PARK in most towns. to drive ANYWHERE involves £3.50 on fuel. Thats under a gallon. Even a good little car will only get you 50 miles per gallon. Thats 25 miles there and 25 miles back.

But no need....the dude brings it for ya, AND you don't get your car scratched by a trolley. You dont even leave your desk at work.

And while I'm at it, lets get my mate a new heatsink, cos that PCis still not 100% stable in the central heating after 4 hours of Unreal 2003.

MAMMOTH bloody great alloy and copper Coolermaster with an 80mm fan, quiet and powerfull, capable of a 3200 chip.... £7

    ITS ALL TOO CHEAP.

England is due a HUGE problem soon. WE DONT PAY ENOUGH FOR STUFF.

Thats not something you hear said very often, if at all

At the end of the day, the retailers selling the goods must still be making a profit on it other wise they would not be selling it. Makes you wonder what they are paying for that £60, 120gb drive in the first place.

Saying that though, if you saw my thread asking for people to recommend me a printer, I was shocked that the one I settled on was only £75, I was expecting to be paying a lot more for a photo printer

It's not just England, I know a couple of people in Holland and their prices make ours look over-priced..

I quite agree, in the days where a processor can hit 4GHz clock, we can pick up the cheap/obsolete stuff for so little money and it still has more than enough power for our needs.

Disposable computing really must be around the corner..

I truly think dispoasable printers are here.

If it wasn't for the ENVIROMENTAL EFFECT in the minds of the general public I am SURE someone would offer pre packed, bubble pack printers with their own cartridge and built in USB cable. For £50 you would take it withyou to a meeting, break the package, print out 400 colour brochures for your punters and then lob it in the dustbin.

However cheap you may think they are I still can't afford a new graphics card.
Maybe you just have too much money ?
What makes that XP2500+ worth more than £65 ? If that latest CPU is the latest technology and expensive to produce then you pay ridiculous ammounts like £350
But if a CPU can be sold for £65 and still make the company a profit, then its just beating competition. I know I wouldn't be willing to pay £150 for a new CPU, thats why I bought an athlo xp 2500+ instead of a Pentium when I upgraded.
I mean just think about all the P1's floating about about for about 50p. they gave you more than enough power at the time as well, but then along came more powerful games and other such pieces of software which required more and more CPU power.
Just as now an XP2500+ runs BF1942, a P100 would run solitare, and in the future a XP5000 will run BF 2010
There is always going to be new technology that makes the old stuff unwanted.
Eventualy the Athlon 64 will be the new Duron, and the Athlon 128 will be the chip of choice

Anyway, how about some of your dosh then ?

Prices fall but sales volumes rise. So while less profit is made per unit more units are sold, for example, companies can either sell one CPU with a £50 profit margin or sell five CPUs with a £10 profit margin.

I really do not see a problem myself. If you are worried about paying too little I will gladly help you out by selling you some parts for twice the price you would normally pay.
