    amd64 3000 socket 939 worth £55

i dont have too much knowledge in these kinda things , i have a p4 2.8 (non ht) 1 gb ram (200hmz) 9800 aiw se,asus vintage case and mobo

i was looking to build a new pc and was looking to try out the amd 64 , someone i know is selling a new chip for £55 im wondering if its worth buying ? if it is worth it , wot would be the best motherboard to get ? (im not rich) i game a lil online , and convert the occasional avi to dvd, etc...
will i see a noticible diffrence ? also is it worth getting a pci express gf/mobo ? or just use my gf card at mo ( i do like the aiw features)
    cheers for looking

Seems reasonable. You could get it and this mobo, Asrock Dual which would let you keep your graphics card for now, but still have the option of upgrading to PCI-express in the future, as it has both AGP and PCI-express slots. It's also reasonably cheap !!

wouldn't reccomend XP 64, especially with Vista coming out in a relatively short time. Drivers are apparently hard to find on all versions of it.

Not sure I'd agree with that anymore.

I recently went back to XP 64 just to see if the situation was any better than when I first got it and I must say that I have had no driver issues whatsoever this time around. Some of the drivers claim to only be in beta stage yet they work flawlessly.

The only thing I haven't got working, but haven't really played with too much as it works on my laptop, is BlueCove (java bluetooth stack).
