    Your Next Rig

I'm wondering what people are thinking of, personally i think i want to go along the lines of this...

    Lian Li PC60 case
    Athlon Socket 939 FX 53
    Suitible motherboard
1GB ddr 400 or higher as appropriate (overclocking potetial tbd)
    DVD RW +/-
    DVD Rom drive
    Raid'd Hard disks maybe 120/160GB's

Anyone looking forward to anything inspiring, or maybe a SFF PC?.

And what determines your upgrade, is it current system is too slow or is it a bit like me in the sense that I love to be an early adopter of the newest and latest kit?

TiG I'd ditch the seperate DVDROM drive and be sure to stick in a good gfx card, 9600PRO or better. Other than that it would be very close to what I'd like for my next rig but around April I'll be putting together a Shuttle (or clone) for my wife in the living room, almost certainly use a Duron or AthlonXP.

happy with what I got for at least 6 months. (could upgrade the processor if I can get a low speed (cheap) Prescott that I can overclock to 4Ghz+

Backing up DVD's would be slow with one drive
Doesn't make sense not to have a DVD ROM drive. Plus the read speeds on dvd rom drives are going to be higher than the rw drives. PLus it doesn't pay to stress out RW drives with too much uneccessary reading.

I'd probably put whatever was about £180 ish in the rig at the time of purchase. But then again i'm just interested in what other people say.

For the first time in my upgrade life, I feel as though I have enough power

SO the new build is a Soltec SFF cos I liked it and it'll be usefull for LAN's. Plus it is DIRT cheap to build a full PC.

However.....the next biggie for me will prob be a 64bit Athlon of some sort....

AFTER I get a new 17" or greater LCD screen

Athlon FX in another Shuttle. Damn I'll never go back to big boxes...

Not till the FX prices come way down though.

Ill prolly be doing what i usualy do and upgrade parts at a time, new cpu here new vid card there, at the moment though theres not much more for me to upgrade, I need to sort out some decent ram after just switching to AMD, I want a TFT but thats about it for the moment, may just go with one for Barton chip if another uber overclocker comes along, apart from that though the next major upgrade for me will be Athlon 64 a few months after socket 939 comes out.

    Mine'll be a quick one .....

Seriously tho, I have no idea. I'm happy with what I got now, does the job well enough although I could do with a new case. Need to get a new gfx card to round out the system, and some more storage, but apart from that, I aint upgrading for a while. Just waiting for these new nVidia cards that are supposed be around the corner - see if they'll be worth spending dosh on
