    Does anyone know when these are expected to come out and how much they will cost?

    The first retail stand-alone units are going on sale in the US this month (Toshiba HD-A1 and HD-XA1) and a Toshiba laptop with integrated HD-DVD drive goes on sale in the UK within the next month.

    The cheapest Toshiba stand-alone deck is $499....while the PC-based units will be cheaper, there aren't any announced yet that I know of.....plus I am not sure what you would do with it? To use them to view films you will need a HDCP-compliant graphics card, monitor and operating system.

    I was just wondering I'm more interedted in the stand alone players for my tv anyway. I'll have to wait till they go down in price though
