Logitech z5500's

I'm really tempted by a set of these at the moment - was just casually browsing to see where to order them from and happened upon amazon - i then read the following user submitted review:

"I know most of you that are reading this have probably heard nothing but praise for this nifty piece of hardware, I can assure that, that is true. however those reviewers may not understand electronics or sounds that well.

HOWEVER- because the subwoofer is gigantic, it creates a deadly EM (electro-magnetic) field, meaning if you put your pc within 2 feet of the subwoofer or any piece of electronics no matter what it is you can cause some serious damage, especially if its prolonged contact. The field is so strong that it increases EMI coming from the power lines that can sometimes create random pops or puffs of sound to your speakers both soft and hard sounds.
The length of wire for each speaker is more than long enough to accomodate your room, but the master control unit to the subwoofer system has a limited cable.
Despite the amazing quality in sound and thx certified it is definatly worth owning if you can afford it. BUT if you buy this hardware YOU MUST purchase/own a surge protector that can protect the sound from increased EMI fields as well as have enough room so that the EM field within the woofer doesn't make contact with your pc equipment. If you don't you will experience mayhem poofs and puffs coming from your speakers and may risk damage to other components.
This is why i rated it 4 out 5 stars. Amazing but Dangerous!"

Eh?? Do i miss something here? I had a set of z-680's and never experienced "mayhem poofs and puffs " thank god. Is there anything in this? What is this guy on about!

I also own some z-680s and tbh that just sound like a load of pap, the sub has been next to my PC for getting on 2 years in different places on different power sockets and it hasn't managed to cause any detonations

I've got Z-640s and have noticed nothing at all....even had the computer sitting on it at one point!

I own Z2200 and have never had problems, at my last house it was probably about 1.5ft away and currently its about 2ft away.

Anyway, from what i've read on hifi cables its not EM radiation that causes pops etc. It's other pieces of equipment on the same circuit that the speakers are plugged into. For example if your fridge is on the same circuit it may cause a pop every time the fridge comes on

ive got the z5500's and the sub is HUGE and i can imagine it does create quite a magnetic field. Although i reckon that review is very over the top. Luckily my sub is about 8ft from my pc and on a surge protector anyway just in case he is correct.

I do experience random pops and some hiss on the speakers though, i always presumed this to be more activated by household appliances being switched on and off, i.e. the microwave even though its a good way away seems to set them off.

I've installed a set of z5500's and there are very explicit warnings in the instructions about the location of the sub. The warning is to protect the discs in the PC from the magnetic field of the sub which does have a substantial magnet.
I can't remember exactly but the minimum recommended is 2metres.
