    SB86i doesn't POST

I just got my first SB86i and installed a Celeron D 341 and a Kingston DDR PC3200 512mb - both brand new from a local Tigerdirect store. I have attached a video cable to the integrated VGA port on the back and attached it to my monitor. When I turn it on I can see the fans going, the LED on the mobo turns on but nothing else happens. No beeps, no video signal, nothing. I have tried 3 different DDR 400 sticks, re-seated the CPU, made sure the BIOS chip was snug, connected another monitor.

I also pressed the CMOS reset button on the back for 5 seconds with the unit unplugged.

Is there anything else that I have to do get this unit to turn on?

Hi pal, 915 Chipset in SB86i don't support Intel "D" series ( Dual Core ) CPU, so so ... Use 6XX / 5XX series Intel CPU.

And, I just got my SB86i the day before yesterday, it can not work with my P4 660 ( ES version) , gee... I have to buy another one ( P4 620).

AND, the latest BIOS of SB86i can not lock the PCI bus to 33.3MHz, so if you wanna overclock the FSB from 200MHz to higher, and when you connect the SATA harddisk, it can not boot...

I got the BIOS upgrade and after clearing the cmos 3 times it boot and automatically recognizes my Celeron "D" 341. I am not sure why you say the chipset does not support D series because it does and it shows it on their compatibility charts.

So i'm quite happy, I built a PVR out of this SB86i and it runs quite smooth and quiet.

Yeah it's my mistake, Celeron D with EM64T is fit for 915 chipset (with updated BIOS), not as Pentium D with Dual core. ^&^

And I have found the option of BIOS to lock the system bus clock, then improve the FSB beyond 200MHz , and keep the SATA harddisk working fine.

The harddisk is very hot in SB86i , just check it carefully.
