    SATA PCI Card???

    hi,

after some drunken buying last week ive suddenly found myself with 2 extra 160GB SATA drives which im thinking of putting into a RAID array.

however, the SATA slots on my mobo are already being used. Ive seen some SATA PCI cards but can these support an array??

also, any links to recommended cards would be appreciated.

    Cheers guys

    Hi Johnny,
I bought a £12 card off Ebuyer last year for an 80gbx2 array...you need to make sure it has SATA RAID BIOS on the card though...not just any SATA card will work.
I'll dig some links off a bit later on if no one else has given any.
    Regards,

Yup, Dabs are currently doing a 4 port card, though with such a card I'm not gunna bother raiding them, just run them as single drives until I get a RAID 5 card and all hell breaks loose

yeh sounds like the plan - not really prepared to spend £100+ yet just to RAID a couple of drives, just gonna run them as single drives, any suggestions on PCI cards for just SATA

Ive played with RAID quite a bit, and if your on a budget, you wont beat http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=117187

Stay away from SI (silicon image) based cards. The drivers are poor and flakey. Performace is also pretty bad.

if you're running them as single drives, then you DON'T need a raid-capable drive.
